37 Years Ago, EPS Was Founded to Solve a Delay. Over Time, It Helped Transform Logistics in the Dominican Republic

In 1989, after a decade of experience in the banking sector, Dino Menicucci made a decision that few people understood: he left a stable career to invest in an international correspondence service.

It was not simply about starting a new business. It was about recognizing a problem that many had learned to accept as unavoidable.

At the time, receiving documents from abroad could take far too long. For a company or a professional, the delay was more than a minor inconvenience. A document that failed to arrive on time could hold up contracts, payments, decisions, and entire business operations.

There were few reliable alternatives. Waiting had become part of the routine.

Dino believed there had to be a better way.

That same year, he co-founded EPS, a company that would later become a pioneer in the courier industry in the Dominican Republic.

A Simple Solution to an Urgent Need

EPS began with a clear proposal: to provide companies and professionals with a faster, more reliable way to receive international correspondence through a monthly membership service.

Today, that solution may seem obvious. At the time, it was anything but.

There was no clearly established service category for this type of business. Online shopping, smartphones, social media, and the platforms that now allow customers to track shipments in real time did not yet exist.

What did exist was a very real need and a clear promise: to make sure that important items arrived when they were supposed to.

Before E-Commerce, There Was Already a Need to Connect

Long before online stores and digital shopping carts, people were already looking for ways to access products from abroad.

Consumers shopped through catalogs, placed orders by phone or fax, and visited showrooms to select products from international retailers. EPS became a natural part of that process.

Correspondence eventually gave way to packages. Packages created new possibilities. And what began as a solution for receiving documents gradually evolved into an increasingly comprehensive logistics operation.

EPS did not need to predict exactly what e-commerce would become in order to understand where the world was heading. It only needed to recognize a deeply human need that remains unchanged: the desire to feel closer to what is far away.

Evolving Also Means Overcoming Challenges

Paving the way is rarely a linear process.

When EPS decided to operate independently in Miami, the transition tested commercial relationships that had been built over many years. The company responded by returning to what mattered most: listening to its customers, addressing their concerns, and rebuilding their trust one relationship at a time.

Years later, a major technology disruption temporarily forced the team to return to manual processes. The systems stopped, but operations continued because of the commitment and determination of the people behind them.

Those experiences left a lesson that continues to define EPS today: technology is essential, but trust is built and sustained by people.

From Commercial Flights to a Nationwide Operation

In its early years, EPS relied on commercial flights to transport documents and packages. As the company grew, cargo flights, greater operational capacity, more advanced processes, and an expanding network of offices followed.

Today, EPS operates more than 100 offices across the Dominican Republic and connects the country with international destinations.

These figures help illustrate the scale of the company, but they do not tell the whole story.

Inside every package, there may be a tool someone needs for work, merchandise for a small business, a long-awaited gift, a critical part for a company, or an essential item for a family.

That is why transporting a package is never simply about moving a box from one place to another. Every shipment represents an expectation, a need, or an opportunity.

Being a Pioneer Was Only the Beginning

EPS was a pioneer in the courier industry in the Dominican Republic and helped create a service category that is now part of everyday life across the country.

But being a pioneer does not mean living in the past.

Technology changes. Shopping habits change. Customer expectations change as well. Every new stage demands greater speed, visibility, convenience, security, and proximity.

The true challenge is to continue evolving without losing sight of the values that made the journey possible.

A Story Built on Trust

EPS’s history has not been built on pricing, infrastructure, or technology alone.

It has been built on consistency. On responsiveness. On security. On closeness. And, above all, on the trust of the people who choose EPS time and time again.

That trust has also been made possible by the commitment of employees, agencies, partners, suppliers, and allies who keep the operation moving every day, both in the Dominican Republic and abroad.

Each one of them is part of these 37 years.

The World Changed. EPS Did Too.

Thirty-seven years ago, many of EPS’s current customers had not yet been born. Others were still in school, while some were just beginning their first jobs.

At the time, purchasing something from a mobile phone or receiving an instant notification about the location of a package seemed impossible.

Today, people can use their phones to access products from anywhere in the world. They can make purchases in seconds, compare options, and track their orders almost in real time.

Throughout all of these changes, EPS evolved as well.

Yet one thing never changed: the excitement of receiving something we have been waiting for and our commitment to delivering it safely and reliably.

37 Years Later

Thirty-seven years later, EPS is much more than a solution to a delay.

It is a company that has learned to change with the world without losing sight of the reason it began: to provide better service.

The way people shop will continue to evolve. Technology, distances, and the ways we receive what we need will continue to change as well. EPS will keep evolving alongside them.

Because great stories do not always begin with an idea everyone understands.

Sometimes, they begin with a problem that someone refuses to accept.

With a simple question: Why can’t this be done better?

And with the determination to turn a need into an opportunity for an entire country.

Thank you to our customers, employees, agencies, and partners for being part of this journey over the past 37 years.

We continue to connect people, businesses, and opportunities. We continue to bring the Dominican Republic closer to the world.
